Bringing order to city roads that are unfortunately turning chaotic by the day will be the biggest challenge for Praveen Sood, the new City Police Commissioner. A 1986-batch IPS officer, Sood is returning to Bangalore City Police after five years. He will take charge as Commissioner on Sunday.

Sood earlier worked as the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in the city from 2008 to 2011. He was instrumental in bringing in many changes, including the establishment a Traffic Management Centre.
He also worked as Deputy Commissioner Of Police  Law and Order in the city and also served  as City Police Commissioner in Mysuru for three years.

A graduate of IIT-Delhi, Sood did his management course from IIM-Bengaluru while in service.
Sood is known to encourage technology-driven policing, but he will also be faced with a staff crunch.  He has also received the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2006 for his contribution towards road safety and traffic management.  In 2011, he won the National E-Governance Gold Award for ‘Most Innovative Use of Technology for Traffic Management’.
