BENGALURU: Traffic congestion is undoubtedly one of the biggest problems faced by Bengalureans. The new city police Commissioner Praveen Sood, who took charge from N S Megharikh on Sunday, has his priorities charted out. Innovative initiatives for safe and smooth traffic flow, harnessing technology to make policing less intrusive and more public-friendly tops the list. Sood is also keen to put an end to unnecessary harassment of motorists on the roads.

“I will focus on citizen-centric initiatives by adopting technology to make policing more people-friendly. There is no need for people to come to the police station or offices unnecessarily to get an update about their cases. Traffic problem is more serious than other problems. Ensuring smooth and safe traffic movement is the first priority,” Sood said.

Sood said that challenges had mounted for policing in the burgeoning city and that he will discuss with the police officers to improve police service to help the public. “I have instructed the police personnel to be extra vigilant to prevent crimes against women and children,” he added.

“I request the public to respect traffic discipline and rules. I have instructed the traffic personnel that collecting fine is not our goal. Traffic police should stop the vehicles only for document verification. Those who violate traffic rules can be stopped and educated,” Sood added.
