Celebrating 100 years of yogananda 

On January 5 1893, a boy named Mukunda Lal Ghosh was born to a devout Bengali family in Gorakhpur.

BENGALURU: On January 5 1893, a boy named Mukunda Lal Ghosh was born to a devout Bengali family in Gorakhpur. He was destined to carry India’s science of Kriya Yoga to all corners of the world. Later known to be Paramahansa Yoganada, his birth anniversary  is celebrated with ardent enthusiasm in several ashrams and meditation centers of Yogoda Satsanga Society.

The year 2017 marks the centennial of the foundation of the Yoganandaji’s  organization. “Millions will find God through these teachings,” Paramahansaji believed. To celebrate the centennial of the Guru’s society, a host of activities have been planned by YSS to reach out to a larger population of our country.

Devotees, under guidance of YSS monks, will work on several spiritual and philanthropic projects, beginning  from the Guru’s Janmostava on January 5 this year. YSS plans to work extensively on these till the end of March 2018.

Devotess will begin philanthropic and spiritual projects to mark the centenary today and the projects will continue till March next year.


The projects include introducing  people to the teachings of  Paramahansaji, meditations, retreats, public talks by monks and making  books available to the interested individuals. Effort to set up medical camps for the needy, scholarships for higher studies, providing meals in orphanages and distributing blankets and clothes will be established.

The organisation started with two ashrams, now it has four ashrams and more than 200 meditation centers across the country. . In ever-growing numbers, people across all continents are embracing his non-sectarian teachings based on India’s offering to the world, the science of Kriya Yoga.
