BENGALURU: Ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 in Bengaluru from January 7 to 9, the state government is rolling out its NRI policy to woo Kannadigas residing abroad. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will release the policy on Friday.

The new policy is expected to help in facilitating services to NRIs and safeguard their welfare.
Speaking to Express, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Infrastructure Development R V Deshpande said through the policy, NRIs especially non-resident Kannadigas, can get incentives in education, medical and other sectors.

“Non-resident Kannadigas are our people. We are making investment policies flexible through this. We are going to highlight it  at the event,” he said.

Around 6,000 delegates, including 1,700 NRIs from 70 countries, are attending the three-day event.
Deshpande said the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas does not usually stress on investment. “This time, we are holding sessions, including “Fuelling growth through disruptive innovations startup ecosystem in Karnataka” and “Invest Karnataka: Innovate, Invent and Invest in Karnataka,” he said.

According to the minister, they are taking this opportunity to represent the state’s strength in the field of IT-BT, infrastructure, manufacturing and tourism where NRIs can look for possibilities of investment.
Deshpande has appealed to various Kannada forums across the globe to be part of the event.

He said they are showcasing traditional artforms which will help in building a brand for Karnataka and Bengaluru. “In the long run, this might attract investment in the tourism sector,” he said.
