BENGALURU: A 28-year-old constable of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Suresh Vijay Gaekwad, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle while on duty at Kempegowda International Airport on Monday morning.

Police suspect family dispute to be the motive behind the suicide of the recently divorced Gaekwad, but his colleagues claim work stress pushed him the extreme step.

A police source said that Gaekwad, who belongs to Solapur in Maharashtra, reported for duty at around 6 am and was deployed at watch tower 7 near the runway. Around 8.30am, Gaekwad’s senior colleague Venkatesh pressed the alarm to call Gaekwad. Getting no response, he went up the tower and found Gaekwad lying in a pool of blood.

Kempegowda Airport police were informed about the incident and the body was shifted to Ambedkar hospital for post mortem, police said.
A senior police officer said they were alerted about the incident at 9.15am and conducted a spot investigation. Gaekwad had shot himself in his head.
