BENGALURU: A minor fire broke out in the food court located on the fourth floor of Gopalan Mall on Bannerghatta Road around 11.40am on Sunday. No casualties were reported. Police suspect a short-circuit in an exhaust fan caused the fire.

A resident who lives in the neighbouring building noticed the fire in the exhaust fan and informed fire and emergency services department. The fire was doused within minutes.

Meanwhile, customers who were at the mall were evacuated. There were not many customers at the mall as it was morning. Traffic on Bannerghatta Road was held up for a while as two fire tenders had rushed to the spot.

Shakira, a student of journalism, said, “I live right next to the mall and I noticed the fire. I immediately called the fire department. The mall staff had managed to douse the fire before fire tenders arrived.”

“There was panic for a few minutes as fire services personnel asked customers to move out of the mall. There were only a few people in the mall at the time,” said Srinivas, who runs a shop in the mall.
The mall staff, however, denied such an incident had taken place.
