BENGALURU:  After two years of de-recognition, the University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to renew affiliation to the distance education courses offered by Bangalore University (BU), on Thursday.

UGC communicated the decision to vice chancellor B Thimme Gowda and said that the university is allowed to conduct courses for the year 2016-17 and 2017-18.

During the year 2014-15, UGC had not renewed affiliation to distance education courses, which was continued even for 2015-16. The varsity had lost its recognition after it failed to comply with the recommendations of a visiting expert committee.

Now as UGC affiliation for distance education programme has been renewed, admissions for both UG and PG courses for the year 2016-17 will be carried out, Gowda said.
