BENGALURU: The Pulakeshi Nagar police have filed a charge-sheet in the case of a 25-year-old Jaipur native woman who was wanted in 250 cases across the country.
In November 2016, the accused Kushbu Sharma was arrested after she allegedly cheated a Supreme Court lawyer, Sanket Yenagi, of `2 lakh on the pretext of getting him office space in UB City.
Police said, “The charge-sheet was submitted to the local court on January 25. We have got evidence of Kushbu Sharma cheating people in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.”
Investigating officials said, “We have recorded statements from about 35 people and got information from other state police. We also have got the audio clippings in which she threatened a few people of implicating them on rape charges and extorted money from them.”
In the charge-sheet, police said Kushbu used Facebook to cheat people.
She used to contact academics, politicians and celebrities.Once she befriended them on Facebook, she used to meet them over coffee. Later, she would rob them of valuables by threatening to implicate them in rape cases.
Police said that Kushbu’s parents had divorced when she was young and she lived with her father in Jaipur. She lost her right hand in a train accident.
Kushbu failed in Class 8, but carries a forged graduation certificate and also speaks English and Hindi fluently. She had fled from home and started to cheat people for survival.
In Bengaluru, she was staying in a paying guest accommodation in Indiranagar since April 2016.
“We also found out that she had stolen a laptop and cash from an engineer in Jeevan Bima Nagar police limits,” police said.
