Stay away from oil to minimise dandruff

I have oily hair and dry dandruff. I am always confused if I should use dandruff shampoos suitable for oily or dry hair.

BENGALURU: I have oily hair and dry dandruff. I am always confused if I should use dandruff shampoos suitable for oily or dry hair. I also want to rid my scalp of dandruff. Kindly suggest a remedy.
Dandruff is caused because of the oil gland activity on scalp. When you have dandruff, it’s not recommended to apply oil. Some other skin problems can also present as scaling on scalp. The reasons for dandruff could be poor diet, stress, hormonal imbalance and heredity predisposition. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist who can diagnose your problem and suggest appropriate treatment.

I have tried hair spas, ayurvedic medication and shampoos but my hair fall hasn’t reduced. It is so bad that my scalp is becoming more and more visible. What should I do?
Hair fall and thinning can be a result of several things like protein deficiency, poor diet, heredity, hormonal, medical conditions, stress,  overstyling etc.  Eat a healthy, balanced diet and do not over-style. If hair fall still continues, meet a doctor.

I have scaly dandruff. Whenever I run my fingers through my hair I find bumpy dandruff stuck to my scalp. I feel an urge to pull it out but then, sometimes, it starts bleeding.
When dandruff is severe, it can be present as scaling that gets stuck on scalp and is difficult to remove. Don’t pull the scabs as you can wound the scalp and damage the hair roots. A dermatologist can determine the cause of your dandruff and suggest the best treatment for long-term management.
