BENGALURU: Another proposed steel bridge project in the city - that would connect commuters from Race Course Road towards Hare Krishna Road and the railway under-bridge in Seshadripuram - has attracted the wrath of residents. On Sunday, several residents, under the aegis of various organisations, gathered near Shivananda Circle and registered their opposition for the project.

The protestors dismissed the stance of the state that the bridge would ease traffic movement, claiming that the infrastructure project would result in degradation of the local environment as several trees have to be cut for the same.

They said that the state government, which in the past had proposed a Steel Bridge from Shivananda Circle to Hebbal had withdrawn the project after it was opposed by residents of the city.“If reducing traffic density was the government’s objective it should have widened the railway over bridge nearby.
The state should immediately stop the project,”they said.

Kumar Jagirdhar, an activist said that though such a project was unnecessary, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was pushing for the project. Criticising the state for the project which was not ecofriendly, he said that BBMP might be pushing for the project anticipating kickbacks, he added.
