SC, ST govt employees to rally in Karnataka against SC’s quota order

An estimated 1.5 lakh government employees are expected to take part in a mammoth protest rally on Thursday to protest the Supreme Court observations about reservation in promotion policy.

BENGALURU: An estimated 1.5 lakh government employees are expected to take part in a mammoth protest rally on Thursday to protest the Supreme Court observations about reservation in promotion policy.

Almost all departments have their own SC/ST employees association and they are all expected to take part in the protest.

The employees had earlier threatened to resort to a massive strike in front of Vidhana Soudha during the legislature session if the government failed to file a review petition in Supreme Court challenging the decision.

The Supreme Court last month had struck down reservation in promotion in government services and the state government had also announced that they would be seeking a review of the judgment.

The protesters plan to stage a march from Town Hall to Freedom Park and put pressure on the government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court at the earliest.

The organisations are demanding that the government hire a legal expert to guide them on the review petition. They also demanded that the government fill up the backlog and vacant posts at the earliest. Their other demand includes extending  reservation to the private sector.
