VTU to reward best engineering projects

This was discussed in the recent executive council meeting where some of the members demanded that some fund be set aside for this. As of now Rs 1 crore has been allotted for this purpose.

BENGALURU: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, will soon reward its students with cash prize judging them on the project they submit as a part of their final year under graduate engineering course.

The project work is a part of the final year engineering course for all the branches.

This was discussed in the recent executive council meeting where some of the members demanded that some fund be set aside for this. As of now Rs 1 crore has been allotted for this purpose.

A member with the executive council told Express, “The amount to be given as reward is yet not decided. It might be between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000.” This initiative is to encourage innovative ideas among students and to stop plagiarism, a senior member of the executive council said.

There are 70,000 students in the final year every year and the university gets at least 50,000 project reports as for many branches, project work is a team activity, a VTU official said.

As per the preliminary discussion the college principals have to shortlist the projects and recommend the same to the university.

A panel of experts will review the projects for the rewards. Once the projects are finalised the same will be put up on the official website of the university and the students selected will get their reward on convocation day.
