A 29-year-old software engineer was arrested for allegedly circulating morphed photos of a woman on Facebook and through messages.

BENGALURU: A 29-year-old software engineer was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly circulating morphed photos of a woman on Facebook and through messages. The arrest was made by Vijayawada police along with city police.

The arrested is Waseem, a resident of Shivajinagar. According to Vijayawada police, a Bengaluru-native woman who shifted to Vijayawada had lodged a complaint after Waseem allegedly circulated morphed photos of her.

An officer from Vijayawada police said, “Waseem created a fake Facebook account under the woman’s name and circulated inappropriate messages. The SIM card he used was under the woman’s name. Investigations revealed that Waseem had stolen the woman’s Aadhar card and forged her signature to get the SIM. The woman thought she had lost her card. Waseem had been troubling the woman for almost a year and she filed a complaint on April 4.”

The officer added, “Waseem knew the woman from college. In 2016, the woman got married and moved to Vijayawada. Upset over this, Waseem allegedly sent abusive messages and morphed photos of the woman to their friends and her husband from the fake social media account he had created.”

The Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police said, “Vijayawada police who came to Bengaluru planned to arrest him around 1am to reduce the chances of Waseem escaping. They took our help to locate Waseem’s phone number and arrested him from his house.”
