BENGALURU: The Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology is planning to set up an Animation, Visual effects, Gaming and Comic sector (AVGC) finishing school in Bengaluru that will function as a bridge between academics and industry. It is likely to come up at ITPL, which is said to be the first of its kind in India where government is being part of it.

Radhakrishna S S, Executive Officer (Project), IT and BT department, said, “Based on the industry requirements, the AVGC will provide additional skill training to graduates. Graduates from Digital Art Centres and other art colleges can also apply,” he added.

The IT and BT department in collaboration with the Association of Bangalore Animation Industry has started DACs at seven existing art colleges in the city to implement digital art and animation curriculum.
Radhakrishna said, “Soon, eleven more colleges will set up DACs and there is also a proposal for nine more art colleges to start DACs. The course is funded by the department, we are looking for colleges, both government and private, with 20 students and above with better infrastructure. This is an attempt to instil digital knowledge among art students who practise traditional art forms, including painting and sculpting,” he added.

Digital city by four months
IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge said they are looking for 10 acres of land in and around Bengaluru to set up a digital city, which will be similar to the film city. “We have seen land at Airport Road and other places, but we are yet to finalise it. It will be a one-stop solution for those in the field of animation. It will be best for post-production, pre-production visual and sound effects.There will be training schools too,  We invite Sandalwood industry to make use of it,” he added.
