Metro officer detained over announcements

A harried resident’s complaint about late-night high-decibel announcements at Vijayanagar Metro station had cops hauling off the Station Controller on duty to the police station late on Friday night.

BENGALURU: A harried resident’s complaint about late-night high-decibel announcements at Vijayanagar Metro station had cops hauling off the Station Controller on duty to the police station late on Friday night.

With the action raising questions about passenger safety, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Saturday brought the issue to the notice of the Police Commissioner.

According to Metro sources, the incident took place at 11.15 pm. “Policemen in a Hoysala vehicle came to the control room of the Metro station and insisted that the controller on duty accompany them to the Vijayanagar police station where he was detained for an hour,” said a top official. The controller could leave the station only after signing a statement.

The complainant, M L Ravi Kumar, a resident of Vijayanagar Extension, had called up the police helpline around 11 pm and lodged a complaint about the high decibel level of the automated announcements at Vijayanagar station.
