BENGALURU: The negligence of a school bus driver cost the life of a six-year-old student while causing serious injuries to two other children after the bus rammed into a KSRTC bus in Dodda Maralawadi, Kanakapura, on Thursday morning. The school bus driver Dhanappa was allegedly talking over mobile phone when the accident happened. He also sustained injuries.

Charan, the victim, was the son of Ganesh, a farmer from Maralawadi. The bus was carrying 15 children, all students of Annapoorneshwari Gurukula school in Maralawadi, a kilometre away from the accident spot. Injured children were admitted to different hospitals, including NIMHANS in Bengaluru.
According to police, the incident occurred around 9.30am. The KSRTC bus heading towards Harohalli collided head-on with the school bus. The impact was such that the top portion of the bus was flung in the air, almost toppling the vehicle. Locals rushed the children to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Charan dead.

During investigation, it was revealed that Dhanappa was speaking over mobile phone and sharply swerved the vehicle on the right causing the collision. DySP Ramanagaram Thammaiah said, “Even the KSRTC bus driver corroborated that he saw Dhanappa talking over phone when the accident took place.” There were around 30 passengers in the KSRTC bus who were unhurt in the incident.
