Rescued Child Labourer to speak in Parliament today

Kanaka, a child labourer who was rescued in 2011, will be speaking at an event organised by the United Nations Children's Fund in the Indian Parliament on Monday.

BENGALURU: Kanaka, a child labourer who was rescued in 2011, will be speaking at an event organised by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Indian Parliament on Monday.  

Kanaka is among the 30 children selected from across the nation to speak about children and child rights on account of Universal Children's day at Indian Parliament. The seventeen-year-old Bengaluru girl studying first-year pre-university course will be representing the children of Karnataka. 

Speaking to Express, Kanaka, who was busy with her last-minute preparations expressed joy over her chance to speak in the Parliament. "I am confident of doing well and reaching out to the elected representatives across the country. I am not just happy and excited to enter the Parliament," she said.  

Kanaka was a child labourer, rescued in 2011 by SPARSHA trust, an NGO in the city.
