BENGALURU: Vidhana Soudha police have registered a case against 23 people who had applied for the posts of assistant professor in first grade college in the state for providing fake certificates and marks cards. According to the complaint lodged by R K Ramesh Babu, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, regional office, “The 23 candidates submitted fake certificates and fake marks cards to get the jobs.”
Police have registered the case under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 471 (forging document or electronic record), 472 (making or possessing counterfeit seal), 465 (forgery) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) against Shivabasappa Masiki, Aharana Gowda and Panchaksharaiah of Koppal, Virupakasha of Ballari, Esthar Sarina Kumari of Belagavi, Chethan Pateel and Gururaj Siddarama Godageri of Raichur, Firoz Ahmed of Bagalkot, Mahadevi of Bidar, Mithun of Kalburgi among others.
They were selected in the recruitment process in 2014 to fill posts of 2,160 assistant professors across the state. The KEA forwarded the documents to the government which, in turn, sent it to the Department of Collegiate Education. The department, however, requested the government to appoint an expert committee as its staff found it difficult to verify the papers, said an official of the department. It came to light that many of them had submitted certificates from unrecognised institutions and universities.
