BENGALURU: In an attempt to address the issues of environmental sustainability, Cumulus, an international association of art, design and media institutions from across the world has come forth with remedial measures. Bengaluru-based Sristhi Institute of Art, Design and Technology acted as the livewire nodal centre in India for achieving the objective of Cumulus.

At least 100 global experts and student ambassadors from 24 countries in art and design specialising in sustainable social innovations converged in Bengaluru for this year’s edition of Cumulus conference hosted by Srishti from November 20 to 23.

The conference ‘Letters to the future’ brought together innovators, leading thinkers, creative problem solvers and scholars to showcase a host of creative ideas and solutions to redress the damage caused to the humanity and greater challenges faced by the society all over the world.

Dr Geetha Narayanan, Founder-Director, Srishti said, “Environmental changes and profligate use of natural resources have made people think of doomsday. The objective of the conference is to focus on how creativity and intellect can help us redress the blunders we have made and provide sustainable solutions through social innovation.”

Speaking on the inaugural day, documentary filmmaker, Artist-in-Residence at the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Shabnam Virmani spoke on timelessness while Sonam Wangchuk depicted how ice, sun and the earth taught students building pedagogies that allow for learning and push us to take education beyond certification.

A solo dance performance titled ‘BodyMine’ was presented by Shabari Rao at Cumulus-Srishti Conference 2017. Shabari has been working directly with students in classroom settings using dance and creative movement in learning.
