BENGALURU: A gang of unidentified men allegedly raped a 23-year-old Nepali girl and left her inside an abandoned house in Avadadevanahalli in Anekal on Thursday.

The incident came to light two days later when the girl narrated her ordeal to a passerby on Saturday. She was brought to Bowring hospital for treatment by a woman who works with an NGO in the city.

According to the police, she was found in a semi-nude condition and the assailants had attempted to kill her after raping her. Amit Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bengaluru Rural district, said that the girl, who works as a daily wager, was looking for a place to sleep when she was followed by the gang who forced her into the house.

In her statement, the girl told the police that in order to make sure that she would not escape from the house, the gang had repeatedly injured her legs with a stone.

"We suspect that she was left to die and was lying in the house for a couple of days before she managed to limp out to the road. A special team has been formed to nab the accused and we will check for CCTV footage from the locality," Singh said.

Police said that the victim was living alone in the city and was earlier working in a hotel as a cleaner and had later joined a factory. She was found trying to call for help by Parijatha, a social activist, who then informed one of her colleagues who called for help. A senior police officer said local youngsters were suspected to be behind the crime and that efforts to identify and nab them are underway.

The girl is currently undergoing a medical examination at the Ghousia Hospital in Shivajinagar. Doctors said that she had multiple fractures in her legs and is unable to walk. Police said that she would be hospitalised until she recovers completely following which she would be rehabilitated as she lived alone.
