BENGALURU: To ensure safety of women and avoid any untoward incidents on New Year eve, BBMP plans to install LCD screens at Brigade and MG Road. On Tuesday, councillors discussed the safety of women and others during the New Year celebrations.

Mayor Sampath Raj later told The New Indian Express: “We plan to hire LCD monitoring system from private agencies. After consulting with cops, we will install them on different locations on Brigade and MG Road to ensure that there is no repeat of last year-like situation.”

“BBMP is also releasing `10 lakh per ward to install CCTV cameras on roads. There are lakhs of shops and other organizations having CCTVs. More CCTVs at important locations may serve as deterrent for molesters and other criminals. We have requested our elected representatives to give a list of sensitive locations to the respective zonal commissioners,” he added.

The Mayor further said that he will ask BMRCL to run Metro trains on the New Year eve till morning hours. “We will also urge hospital authorities and fire personnel to be ready to tackle any emergency situation. People should welcome 2018 in a civilised manner,” he added.
