BENGALURU: A day after the city witnessed another pothole-related death, chief minister Siddaramaiah cited lack of technology as a reason behind the lagging progress in mending potholes in the city. He has also directed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to complete the work in the next 15 days.

Siddaramaiah, on the delay in filling potholes, said that the constant rain in the city made it tough for BBMP to complete the work. "We do not have technology where potholes can be filled even during rainfall. I have directed officials to fill potholes in next 15 days, failing which action will be initiated,'' he added.

On Monday, the chief minister along with BBMP Officials visited Nayanadahalli junction on Mysuru road where 45-year-old Radha, was killed in an accident on Sunday. Her nephew, who was riding a scooter, had braked suddenly near a pothole causing her to fall down. She was run over by a lorry.

To a question on whether roads were damaged due to Metro track construction, Siddaramaiah said they have given direction to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director to develop those roads damaged by their construction activities. He also said they want to develop all roads in Bengaluru with White topping. Since there is dearth of funds to take up this at a time, it will be taken in phases for major roads on a priority basis, he added.
