BENGALURU: Bell bottoms and long sleeves are in vogue this season, but when I wore it in Bengaluru, it was a nightmare. The flooded roads eventually drenched my bell bottoms and the long sleeves of the top got in the way of handling my umbrella. By the time I reached home, I regretted even opting to wear what I had. To spare the horror, here are some do’s to battle the rain in style.

Ditch the denim
Set aside long pants and sleeves and opt for cropped trousers, culottes and skirts. Ensure to ditch denims this season, not because it is out of fashion, but because the material gets heavy when wet. The right fabric is the key to look and feel good so cotton and nylon will not disappoint as it dries faster. When supermodel Kaia Gerber opened the Chanel 2018 spring collection in tweed skirt and transparent PVC hat and boots that qualifies as ‘luxury hat and boot’, it was easy to sense how fashionable the rains could be. It is only less experimented because we pass it on for a laid back day.

Raincoats and gumboots
We have been wearing these since childhood, but when fashion grew as a priority so did spotting the trendy raincoats and gumboots. Clear transparent raincoats do wonder to save you from the rain when at the same time does not compromise on your #OOTD. There are options of rain jackets, if not coats, that look chic and dapper and has been spotted on the runway quite a few times this year.
Rubber gumboots, though upgraded and fashionable, may look a bit out of place this season because monsoons are out. However, faux leather boots that cannot be damped by the rains is the most-fashionable bet this season.

Bright is right
The accessories you put in can be a game changer. A headband to keep your tresses sharp or a scarf to add brightness to your outfit. Even an umbrella can be an accessory. However, note that this is also a festive season, so do not shy away from bright colours and water-proof jewellery and accessories.
