BENGALURU: When PhD researchers and senior scholars from across the world gathered in the Hall of Lübeck University to present their papers, this 19-year-old BE Mechanical Engineer from city’s RV College was probably the youngest. Sachin S Bharadwaj was presenting a paper for the very first time, and it was on the use of hybrid systems to manage renewable energy sources.
Sachin, a professional actor, singer and a familiar face on TV serials and reality shows, has always been interested in pure science – particularly Physics and advanced Mathematics.

When he was introduced to neural networks through Computer Science, he thought of using advanced Mathematics to make a more effective and faster algorithm. His paper was published in an IEEE journal, and it was Scopus Indexed – meaning it was reviewed and authenticated by peer group of experts.
Sachin says, “I specialise in Theoretical Quantum Physics and,  in particular, Quantum Computing”. During his first year of engineering, he formulated an idea in renewable energy sources and discussed it with a professor at RV College. The professor guided him to the International Conference for Environmental Research or ICER, which takes place every year at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

After the research paper was accepted, Sachin was invited to present it at the university. “A professor mistook me for a PhD scholar, and was shocked that I was in my first year BE,” says Sachin.
To study further in Physics, he looked up Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research or JNCASR, and applied for its Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP). Out of 7,000 or 9,000 applicants from across India, Sachin was one of the 13 selected.

While doing his internship at JNCASR Institute in Theoretical Physics, he was even invited to give a lecture at the CNR Rao Hall of Science Lectures. It was the first time a student had been awarded that honour. “I gave a set of lectures on Theoretical Physics and Mathematics and one on Physics-Mathematics-Music.”

Sachin took a few lessons from classical music veteran Vid RK Padmanabha, when he was seven. But he was not formally trained in music. He took part in the ‘Saptaswara’ programme of Kasturi Channel and emerged one of five finalists. In Zee Saregamapa (2005) and Ede Tumbi Haaduvenu reality shows, he came first runner-up.

He then decided to train more seriously and approached Vidwan RK Padmanabhan for it. “When I was at Germany to present my paper, a professor at the university asked me if I could give a concert in the evening. I agreed,” he says, adding, “Since Germans love Sanskrit, I took the verses from Abhijnaana Shaakuntala, composed them in different ragas and presented them.”

Acting and modelling career
Sachin has acted in Malebillu, an ETV Kannada serial, Brundavana, Ramayana and others. He has acted in movies such as Aatmeeya, Gurukula, Minugu, Olave Jeevana Lekkaachaara, Birugaali, Praarthane and Chaitanya. He has also been featured in ads for Kisan, Marks and Spencers, Forca, Abhay Suraksha, Vastra Bhandar and more.
