BENGALURU: A 13-year-old Bengaluru boy drowned in a lake at Ramohalli in Kumbalgodu, on Tuesday. The fire department personnel fished out his body on Wednesday morning.

Chandan, son of Krishnappa and Lilavathi, both labourers, was a class 8 student at LNR Public School in Ramohalli.

According to the police, Chandan, a resident of Vinayakanagar, near Kengeri, left his home at around 12.30pm on Tuesday to meet two of his friends, Darshan and Rahul. He had informed his brother Abhishek (12) about it. Later in the day, at around 2 pm, he left his friends to visit the Bhimanakuppe lake nearby. When the boy didn’t return home by the evening, the family began to search for him. The Kumbalgodu police were informed when Chandan’s bicycle, clothes, and slippers were found near the lake.

“Chandan’s body was found around 10 am on Wednesday morning, and has been sent for post-mortem,” the police said.

“The lake has filled up with water after 25 years. Other residents nearby sometimes come here to swim. However, no officer was stationed at the lake until the incident,” the police added.
