BENGALURU: As many as 240 BBMP pourakarmikas and BWSSB underground drainage workers will get one BHK Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) flats on Tumakuru Road by the second week of October. This apart, they will also be sent to Singapore in the next few weeks.

R Vishal, Director of Municipal Administration, told reporters that they have identified 240 BBMP pourakarmikas and BWSSB UGD workers who do not own houses in Bengaluru. “We have taken seniority as the criteria and they must also be permanent staffers. They will be handed over the keys by the second week of October,’’ he said. “Also, we will give them papers with the condition that they cannot sell the flats for the next 10 years. We just want the beneficiary to have a house,’’ he added.

Vishal said that each one BHK flat costs around `11.5 lakh, of which `6 lakh will be given by the Directorate of the Municipal Administration Department and a major portion will be paid by the BBMP. These people will get the flats almost free of cost,’’ he added, implying that the workers will have to pay a minimal amount. The Directorate of Municipal Administration is also planning to send batches of BBMP pourakarmikas to Singapore separately. One of them will fly soon.
