BENGALURU: The reservation of the first two doors of Namma Metro trains for female commuters, which started across all stations on Monday, was hailed by thousands of women passengers. They all welcomed the move saying that it would provide them some relief while travelling by Namma Metro
On Monday, Namma Metro commuters were greeted with the sight of a cordon around the place where the first coach of the train comes to a halt. Guards could be seen permitting only women across the cordon while men were turned away.

“I will not have to push and fight to get on to the train anymore,” said Jayalakshmi, who travels between Jayanagar and Vidhana Soudha everyday. “It is the first day today, people will be happy naturally. But in a few days we will know if there are any administrative problems or other issues faced by passengers, we will fine tune the system after a week,” said BMRCL Managing Director Mahendra Jain.

While the first two doors will exclusively be reserved for women, this does not mean that female passenger would be stopped from entering through other gates of the train, he clarified.“It is a good move but what we need urgently is a coach reserved for women, or maybe even an entire train. There are enough female passengers using the Metro daily. Travelling during the peak hours is very problematic and stressful,” said a college student.
