BENGALURU: Dentist Suman was always passionate about cooking. She always wanted to open a food joint of her own and finally opened Doodle in Vasanth Nagar four months ago. Suman says, “Dentistry is my profession but my passion is food. I used to hang around a lot with my friends and taste variety of street food and this gave me an instinct to begin a new venture in this field.” Suman adds she travelled to many countries and tried the authentic street food flavours and then experimented the same to build a theme and recipes for her cafe. Coming from a non-business background, Suman faced various challenges in setting up this cafe. But it was her determination and support from the family and friends which kept her going, she says adding, “No one from my family has a background in food business.

So, I was a novice in this industry. Trial and error, understanding the crowd’s taste, managing the staff and conveying my ideas to the chefs were some major challenges I faced. Now my aim is to expand the business with more outlets and create a brand name in the market.”The cafe aims to serve ‘street food around the world’. Suman says, “We have burgers, rolls, pasta, pizzas, cakes and for beverages, there are a number of mocktails and shakes.

We have experimented with various cuisines such as modern Indian, Mexican and Italian which we feel will grab the crowd’s attention.” Name of the dishes also give a glimpse of the origin of the burger such as the 'Land of Rising Bun' and 'Sher-e -Pizza'. “Land of rising Bun is a Japanese flavoured pizza and Sher-e-Pizza is an Indian flavoured one,” she adds.

"The price varies but with around `200, one person can have a hearty meal” adds Suman. She claims that the cafe does not use ajinomotto or other added preservatives. "Even the bread and buns here are freshly baked in our own kitchen. We even bake a variety of customised cakes and confectionaries along with street food," she adds.

Doodles is hosting a Burger Festival where they will serve around 10 different burgers from different parts of the world. "We make sure every burger is unique with the respective tastes of the country." There are a wide variety of burgers with grilled patty and salsa with different flavours such as the American, Mexican, Chinese and Italian. Suman says, “The burger list includes the Crackling Kiwi which is a legendary burger from New Zealand and Ole!, a crowd favourite. It is a Mexican burger with tomato salsa” The festival is on till February 28.

Suman says, “We are introducing a different variety of bun called the Ciabatta bun, an Italian bread which has a softer texture and different look.” There is also a burger eating contest. The challenge is to eat three different variety of burgers in three minutes. "But you need to place an order for minimum `300. If you win the contest, a meal to your friend is on the cafe," says Suman. For more details, you can contact Doodles on 80486 66224 or 90364 90135.
