BENGALURU: Four days of debate and speculation on how the brutal assault case on 24-year-old Vidvat Loganathan would pan out, finally culminated in Shanthinagar MLA NA Haris’ accused son Mohammed Haris Nalapad on Wednesday being shown the way to the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.Mohammed and his six associates -- Arun Babu, Manjunath, Mohammed Afroz Ashraf, Balakrishna, Abhishek and Nafi Mohammed Nasir -- were arrested by the Cubbon Park police on Monday morning for attempting to murder 24-year-old Vidvat Loganathan, at Farzi Cafe in UB City, on Saturday night.

They were remanded in police custody for two days on Monday. As police custody ended on Wednesday, the Cubbon Park police took the accused for medical check-up, as per procedure, to Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital. Then they were brought to the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) on Nrupathunga Road around 4.30 pm, where they were remanded in judicial custody. They were then taken to the central prison.

When being taken to the court, Mohammed appeared the least repentant about the reasons for his predicament. He appeared unshaken by his arrest or the court remanding him to judicial custody.  While entering as well as leaving the court premises, he even waved to a few of his followers. The special public prosecutor (SPP) advocate MS Shyamsundar submitted to the court that the accused should not be given any respite as they had attacked Vidvat and left him seriously injured. His request was in response to Mohammed’s advocates having applied for a bail for their clients on Tuesday, which was heard by another sessions court.

“The victim (Vidvat) is still in the ICU with broken nose and ribs. The police are yet to record his statement. At this juncture, it would not be appropriate to give any relief to the accused, as they would destroy evidence or influence witnesses,” Shyamsundar submitted.

When the defence counsel  said they had moved bail petition in sessions court and not here, Shyamsundar retorted: “When the government has appointed me as the SPP, I would not come here without knowing that.” Hearing the arguments, magistrate M Mahesh Babu remanded all the accused persons in judicial custody for 14 days. The bail petition hearing was adjourned to Friday. The police did not allow outsiders and journalists to be inside the court hall during the hearing.

Government advocate accuses supporters of intimidating him
Bengaluru:
MS Shyamsundar, the Special Public Prosecutor in the case against MLA NA Haris’ son Mohammed Haris Nalapad, was allegedly intimidated by a few supporters of Mohammed, while he was coming out of the court hall after the hearing on Wednesday. He has written to senior police officers in this connection. “I am representing the victim Vidvat and his parents.

I made a strenuous argument against them (Mohd & aides) and requested the court to take serious action against them. There were supporters of Mohammed and rough elements were present there. They were openly unhappy about my appearance against them and my fierce submissions. I overheard some one of Mohammed’s supporters talking aiming at me. I apprehend some danger and safety issues. Please consider giving me some security for my life and office,” the advocate stated.

He didn’t talk much
Sources said that Mohammed, who was taken to jail on Wednesday, appeared a bit depressed and did not talk much even with his associates. “It is a very common thing. The first day in the prison will definitely make anyone depressed and Mohammed is no exception,” a source said.
