Sensors track energy consumption pattern

Banking on a pain-point that most companies experience, iReveal, an energy management domain is saving costs one establishment at a time

BENGALURU : There are many ways in which a company attracts loss. One of the prime reasons is, over consumption of energy. However, the companies or establishments or even educational institutions remain unaware of how and where? It is here that iReveal comes into play.As Tharian Jose Keezhanjil, CEO, puts it, iReveal offers cost-effective and cutting-edge IT solutions and domain expertise in the energy management domain. And how do they do that?

According to Tharian, the company’s expertise is in automatic data collection that is done via smart sensors. These sensors are installed anywhere, with the help of their could-based IOT software framework and data analysis augmented with machine learning algorithms. “We analyse the data thus collected, and finally provide information to stakeholders upon which they can take action. Over the past four years, we have been helping customers in different verticals to better manage energy usage, improve energy efficiency and reduce operating cost,” he said.

Tharian, an electronic engineer who did his masters at the State University of New York and had worked with Oracle, decided to set up iReveal after realising that the tools offered by the multi-national companies are very expensive. “Do you know energy management and conservation are well-researched topics in the Western countries? Even today a large number of people in our country don’t have an idea about it. So I decided to provide cost-effective solutions by making most of the advancements made in the hardware and software. The tools today are available at much cheaper rates and this, in turn, helps my company to provide cost-effective energy and utility management,” he says.

The entire set up hinges on internet connectivity and also leverages machines besides cheaper hardware. “Hence, it is most suitable for Indian industries, especially in the SME sector,” he said. According to him, the energy cost incurred by each institution, organisation or industry differs. “The money spent on energy by a hospital and a hotel differ. It is important to note that in the case of a process industry, 50 to 60 per cent of their operating cost gets poured into energy. It is a neglected area because companies focus only on the finished goods,” he adds.

This is where our iReveal comes in, he added. “We install smart devices. These devices are comprised of sensors and a software framework. The sensors are installed at strategic positions in the compound of the organisation. The sensors can be installed at any campus of the organisation be it in Bengaluru, Kochi or even New York. It doesn’t matter because all that is needed is an internet connection. The software framework pulls the energy usage and contextual data on a real-time basis from these sensors automatically,” he said.

iReveal then analyses them and provides actionable information to the stakeholder. “The trend of energy usage. That is how much energy is being used by each and every section of the organisation. What is the per unit of energy being consumed? We provide them with the tools to make the equipment more efficient and give them details such as, the amount of current the equipment is pulling besides improving awareness regarding overall energy consumption and pollution level,” he said.

The cost of installing the system differs and the company provides different costing options. “For small to medium enterprises, we offer a subscription. They offered shared resources. The companies can register on our portal or website. The cost is based on the number of sensors and the fee comes around  `65,000. After that if the number of sensors goes up, a fee of  `400 is charged per sensor,” said Tharian. For bigger organisations that can afford the cost, a one-time solution is provided. And it starts from `1.5 lakh onwards.

iReveal is planning to tie up with energy houses and domain
experts. “We want to provide domain expertise and also energy audits to the companies,” he said. Some of the big names in Kerala to which iReveal provides energy solutions are Amrita institutions, Eastern,
Tolins, Parthas and Dandy Handyman.
