No end in sight to medical fee tangle

The delay by state government in fixing the fee for undergraduate professional courses for the current academic year has caused tension for seat aspirants as the deadline to complete admission

BENGALURU:  The delay by state government in fixing the fee for undergraduate professional courses
for the current academic year has caused tension for seat aspirants as the deadline to complete admissions for medical dental courses is just 24 days away.As per the Supreme Court directions, the admission
process for medical and dental courses should be completed by July 30. But till date, government has failed to arrive at any conclusions with the private college management over fixation of fee.

Even on Wednesday, the meeting which was conducted by Medical Education Department was inconclusive. However, the private college managements are demanding a 30% hike, where the government is not ready to go beyond 8%,  recommended by the Few Regulatory committee headed by justice D V Shylendra Kumar.

However, the issue was even raised in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly by the opposition on Wednesday as soon as Medical Education minister D K Shivakumar arrived. Defending the point, Shivakumar, said, “We are in the process of regulating all these things and we will complete it soon.”But, when asked about whether the fee was fixed, the minister said, “We are still working on it and will complete the process soon.”The situation is similar even with engineering colleges. It looks like nothing will happen for the next one week as there will be assembly and council sessions going on.
