Infosys Foundation inks deal for Rs 200 crore Metro station

BENGALURU: Infosys Foundation on Thursday signed an MoU with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), in presence of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, to build and maintain the Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara Metro station at a programme organised  in Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.Infosys Foundation had agreed to donate `200 crore to build and maintain the metro station for next 30 years. Kumaraswamy said the foundation’s involvement in developmental initiatives will serve as a model to other corporates.

Metro is inevitable to Bengaluru, he stressed, and recollected that the foundation stone laying ceremony for the project was a treasured moment in his life. The first phase of Metro had covered 47 km and the work for second phase had begun. Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty said joining hands with the state for development is not charity, but our duty towards our motherland. The Metro has played a major role in reducing traffic congestion in the city, she said.  “The pleasure in working for people is unmatched,’’ she said, quoting poems of Pampa and Purandara.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwar said other IT companies must take cue from Infosys and join hands with the government to make Bengaluru a peaceful and safe place.  Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, Ministers R V Deshpande,  D K Shivakumar, H D Revanna,   Jayamala,   Sa Ra Mahesh, and  B Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chief Secretary Vijaya Bhaskar, Additional Chief Secretary to Government Mahendra Jain, BMRCL Managing Director Ajay Seth, among others were present.
