Techie held after minor nanny ends life

BENGALURU:  A 14-year-old girl, who was brought from Bihar by a couple to take care of their six-month-old baby, committed suicide by hanging at their apartment in Belathur near Kadugodi. Police have booked a case against the couple and have arrested the husband, a software engineer, on charges of abetment to suicide.The deceased is Manasa, who hails from Gopalganj district in Bihar. The arrested is Krishna Kant Singh.According to police, the incident took place on July 12, when Singh had gone for work while his wife, the baby and Manasa were at home.

Police said, “Around 10.30am, Singh’s wife rushed out of their apartment and told the security guard that the bathroom door was locked and the door has to be broken. When Bijay Kumar Mahakul, who was with the guard, told her he would give her the phone number of key makers and they would help her, she requested him that the door needs to be opened immediately. Mahakul, who went with her, forcibly opened the bathroom door and was shocked to find a girl hanging from the window grill of the bathroom, using her veil. Immediately, they cut the veil with a knife and brought Manasa down but she had died by then. Then Mahakul alerted the police and filed a complaint.”

“When the couple was questioned, they told that the girl was brought two months ago. They also claimed that they had brought her with an intention to provide her education as well as there are no good schools in her village. Manasa’s parents, who were also questioned later, also said she was sent to Bengaluru for education. During the probe, it was found that the girl was brought to take care of the baby. Prima facie, she was depressed as she was staying away from her parents and thus killed herself,” the police added.

The accused Singh was arrested and booked under Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment Act 2016, and sections 370 (trafficking of persons) and 305 (abetment of suicide of child or insane person) of the IPC.
