BENGALURU: A couple was electrocuted at their house in Bandepalya near Hongasandra on Friday night. The deceased are Lavanya (29) and her husband Veeranna (32) — both residents of ITI Layout. They were into snacks manufacturing business in the area and are survived by two kids.

A senior police officer said the incident occurred around 10.15pm at a shed that the couple had built to make snacks. A live wire was connected to the shed from their house and Lavanya, who had kept clothes for drying, came to pick them up.

While taking the clothes down from the line, she came in contact with the live wire and started screaming. Her husband, who was cooking, rushed to help her and both died on the spot.

The neighbours who noticed the incident alerted BESCOM staff who rushed to the spot and disconnected the wire. Bandepalya police shifted the bodies to St. John’s Hospital for the postmortem.

Kushalappa, an eye-witness told the police that he heard someone screaming when he was passing by that house and witnessed the accident. “One of their kids had come out from the house and then I handed them over to the neighbours,” he said.

The younger kid of the couple was at one of their relative’s house when the incident took place. The last rites were performed on Saturday evening.
