BENGALURU: To ensure ease in procurement of concessional bus passes for students across the city, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced a system wherein school and college students can apply for passes directly from their schools/colleges.It has also permitted students to travel in ordinary buses with the previous financial year’s passes up to June 30.

An official release on Wednesday said this has been done ‘to avoid inconvenience to students like submission of documents in the bus stands and standing in a queue for a long time to obtain passes.’Specifying the process involved, the release said that students need to inform their schools and colleges about the requirement. The nodal officer of the institution will subsequently enter the travelling details of the students in the Student Achievement Tracking Software (SATS) software and submit the application online. The passes will be issued after due verification by the BMTC.

“Since the issuance of new passes through educational institutions could take some time, the Corporation has also permitted students from Class I to I PUC to travel from their residences to schools/colleges with the previous year’s bus passes up to June-end,” the BMTC said.

Students who have lost their passes and those availing new passes for the current academic year can apply with the required documents and prescribed pass fee at Kempe Gowda bus station.

Primary and high school students can apply for them from June 8 and I PUC students from June 11, the release added.
