BENGALURU: Mahadevpura MLA Arvind Limbavali held two meetings with traffic police, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials and residents of Bellandur on Thursday to discuss solutions for traffic issues in the area.

The meeting was a result of another meeting between residents from the citizen group, ‘Bellandur Jothege,’ and the MLA a week ago, when the residents had put forward the issues.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R Hitendra and DCP East (Traffic) Anupam Agarwal attended the first meeting. Limbavali put multiple issues before the officials, such as, support for the upcoming construction of the Kundanahalli junction grade separator, ORR heavy vehicle monitoring, increasing enforcement against traffic violations, patrolling in IT corridor areas, installation of CCTV cameras, setup of new police station in Doddanakundi etc. DCP Agarwal agreed to visit some of the affected junctions to look into solutions.

The second meeting was with senior BBMP officials of Mahadevpura. “The highlight of this meeting was that we presented our opposition to an upcoming, badly-designed underpass at Haralur junction, and the MLA agreed with us,” said Mukund Kumar, a member of Bellandur Jothege. “Any junction improvement must address the crucial point between ORR and Ibbalur. A piecemeal solution will not work,” Kumar added.

Residents had drawn up a proposal to construct a 4-km pedestrian walkway along the ORR. Limbavali asked the officials to expedite the project. The walkway has been proposed from Wipro office on Sarjapura Road till the Central Mall in Bellandur.

Another issue on the residents’ agenda was reinstatement of suburban rail trains, which were removed by the South Western Railway citing poor ridership. Mukund attributed the low ridership due to the trains being introduced during non-peak hours. Limbavali agreed to take up the issue with Union Minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal,, with a proposal to introduce the trains during peak hours.

DyCM finds waste processing plant in order, residents say no

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, who is also Bengaluru Development Minister, inspected the waste processing plant at Hemmigepura here on Friday.  Parameshwara was accompanied by BBMP officials at the plant located in Doddabidarakallu. He instructed officials to set up a buffer zone of 200 m around the plant beyond which the odour from the plant would not spread and thus residents would not suffer. Local residents, however, have expressed issues with the plant owing to the odour.

They allege that the plant causes contamination of groundwater. A citizen group 'I Change Hemmigepura' tweeted that they had asked the Deputy CM to order the plant to be shut down. The tweet stated that the plant was in a better condition on Friday than on other days, and urged Parameshwara to carry out a surprise inspection.
