BENGALURU: A one-year-old baby died while his mother and three-year-old sister were rescued after the mother jumped with her two kids into a lake in a suicide bid.
The incident took place in Jigani police station limits in Anekal taluk on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday evening. Family dispute is said to be reason for the incident. The deceased is identified as Mohit. His mother Munirathna (25) and sister Nitya were rescued by villagers. Nitya is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
Police said Munirathna, a resident of Jigani, jumped into Mahanthalingapura lake along with Mohit and Nitya around 6 pm on Tuesday.Villagers, who were passing by, noticed the trio drowning and some of them jumped to rescue them. While they were successful in rescuing the mother and daughter, the toddler drowned. The villagers later informed the police about the incident.
