BENGALURU:A 68-year-old woman, who was living alone, was found murdered in her shed at Gauramma Layout in Pappareddy Palya under Annapurneshwari Nagar police station limits on Wednesday. The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased is Rajamma. She was living alone and was running a petty shop for livelihood.
Police said Rajamma has a foster daughter, identified as Dhanalakshmi, who lives in the same locality. Dhanalakshmi’s school-going daughter visited Rajamma every morning before going to school. The murder came to light when the girl came to visit her grandmother on Wednesday at around 7.30 am. She found her grandmother lying dead and alerted the neighbours.

“Rajamma used to lock the gate, but kept the door of the shed open. Prime facie, it appears that she was strangled to death in the wee hours. Her neighbours said that they didn’t venture out to see even though they heard Rajamma’s cries in pain around 2 am. We suspect that the murder happened at the same time. Her gold ear rings and `10,000 cash she had in the shed are intact. The exact reason for the murder has to be investigated,” the police said.

“She was earlier living in a relative’s house, but had suffered a mental-health issue around six to seven years ago. After that, she had decided to live alone and had been living in the shed for the last six years. The area is isolated with only a few houses around and has no CCTV cameras in the vicinity. We are trying to gather clues about the killers,” the police added. The Annapurneshwari Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
