Bengaluru man claiming to be cop, flees with 82-year-old’s gold chain

An unidentified man diverted the attention of a 82-year-old woman and robbed her gold chain at Rajarajeshwarinagar.

BENGALURU: An unidentified man diverted the attention of an 82-year-old woman and robbed her gold chain at Rajarajeshwarinagar.The incident came to light on Monday as the victim approached the police.
A senior police officer said that the incident took place on Saturday when Jayamma, a resident of BEML Layout, had come to a nearby temple.

Around 10.30 am when she was returning home, three men passed before her on a bike. Meanwhile, one of the accused came towards her to inform that chain snatchers are targeting elderly women in the area and it is not safe to wear a gold chain while walking on the road.

He then claimed that he was a policeman and insisted that she keep her gold chain in her bag. Jayamma believed him and kept her chain inside the bag and started walking. Soon, he came behind her and snatched the bag from her. She had also bought a new phone which was kept it in the bag. Jayamma’s husband recently passed away and she is living with her kids in BEML 3rd stage. Police have
obtained CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the accused.
