BENGALURU: Former Prime Minister and Karnataka government’s Maharishi Valmiki awardee for 2018-19, H D Deve Gowda, skipped the award ceremony on Wednesday and headed to London. Deve Gowda is scheduled to take part in an event organised by The Basaveshwara Foundation in the UK at 11 am on October 26.

Deve Gowda was chosen for the Valmiki award for his service to the SC/ST cmmunities by a committee headed by retired High Court judge Nagamohan Das. He, however, informed the Social Welfare Department of his prior commitment and inability to attend the award ceremony but made a stop at the Legislators Home near Vidhana Soudha to pay tributes to the statue of Maharishi Valmiki marking the Jayanti celebration.

Deve Gowda even took to Twitter to convey his schedule for the day. He is scheduled to pay respects to the famous statue of Basavanna along the bank of the River Thames. Members of the Kannada-speaking community are expected to join the event organised by the non-profit organisation headed by former mayor of London borough of Lambeth Dr Neeraj Patil.
