BENGALURU: In another step to bring Bengaluru back to its former glory, the Karnataka High Court has now taken up the issue of cleanliness. This comes after the Karnataka High Court gave orders to the BBMP to curb the flex menace and to fix potholes across the city, to ensure safety for motorists.
On Thursday, a division bench of Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice SG Pandit ordered the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to come out with concrete and substantial results for the cleanliness of the city by October 31, the next date of hearing.

During the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL), the counsel for the BBMP requested for additional time to advise the Authorities concerned to take the appropriate steps. The time extension was allowed by the court. However, the court said, “It would be expected of the BBMP to come out with concrete and substantial results as regards cleanliness in the city by the next date (October 31) of the hearing.”

The PIL was filed by Narasimha Murthy and 10 other local residents. They contended that a garbage bin placed near the compound wall of the Amma Bhagavan temple situated at 2nd Cross in Domlur Second Stage, East Bengaluru, was proving to be a nuisance to the locals. The authorities of the BBMP had failed to respond to the representation submitted to shift the bin to another place.
