BENGALURU: Residents of Bellandur and surrounding areas took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the government and the civic authorities. They put forward a list of demands to make the area liveable. Over two thousand residents formed a human chain to create Bellandur's very own Bermuda triangle to highlight several issues that have plagued the residents of Bellandur, Sarjapur Road, Kasavanahalli, Haralur, Choodasandra and other neighbourhoods around the lake.

The key demands put forward include the immediate upgrade of 61 kilometers of major roads to help speed up traffic, the implementation of a detailed short term plan to improve traffic management, pedestrian safety and the introduction of Namma Metro between Iblur and Carmelaram as part of Phase II instead of Phase III.

“The authorities must also put in place a garbage microplan, fix destination zones, commit to a functional dry waste collection center and a bio-gas plant within 30 days,” the residents' statement read. They also want 5 representatives from the movement to be made part of the ward committees in the area.
According to #SaveBellandur, an umbrella organization for resident welfare associations and others, the BBMP gets over `220 crore in tax annually. "As per the BBMP budget expenditure, we got about `6-7 crore in the annual budget. There is a serious discrepancy of funds and infrastructure. The ward is also seriously understaffed for its scale," the group said in a statement.
