BENGALURU:  Five-year-old Chetan Sai, who was set ablaze by his father in Thalaghattapura on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The father is recovering in the hospital. Thalaghattapura police are yet to take a statement from the accused over the incident. On Sunday, 38-year-old electrician Srinivas Murthy set fire to his two kids by pouring kerosene on them before setting himself on fire at Anjananagar on Sunday.

His younger son Preetham (3) was brought dead to the hospital while Chetan's condition was critical. Chetan succumbed to injuries on Monday morning. Police said that Murthy had taken the extreme step as he was upset over frequent quarrels with his wife. Murthy's wife Premalatha had separated from him because of his addiction to alcohol and frequent harassment.

The final rites of the both kids were conducted in the city after post-mortem. Murthy's uncle Muni Reddy approached the police and filed a statement about the family dispute. A case of murder has been filed against Murthy and the neighbours also gave statements before the police as evidence to take action against Murthy, the police added.
