Members of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association on Tuesday held a candlelight protest against the state government’s plan to set up a Cubbon Park Development Authority.

“The body will be along the lines of the Bangalore Development Authority. They will need commissioners, staff and buildings, which will probably result in more buildings in the park than trees. It is just a way for officials to eat up the exchequer’s money,”  president of the association, S Umesh, said.

He suggested that the Horticulture Department take care of the park with the help of more efficient officials. The Association sent a memorandum in this regard to the Governor on December 29 last year, but did not receive a response.
