More than 800 students of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Yelahanka along with their faculty and management launched the Peacekeepers Club as part of the World Peacekeepers Movement, a world peace movement initiated by Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala and Anil Shetty. With a vision to spread world peace through the formation of the world’s largest army - The World Peace Army, the club was inaugurated by Justice Santosh Hegde, Former Lokayukta of Karnataka. Presently, the rapidly growing movement has more than 3.8 lakh Peacekeepers registered on Facebook.

The movement is based on the enlightening concept of peace with people and nations. They publish books on peace, conducting workshops, distributing peace gifts and celebrating peace day.

They will shortly be launching Peace Cafe, a coffee shop, Peace Music Band and are in the process of developing an animation super hero character named ‘Peacekeeper’.

The students marched a ‘Peace Candle Light Walk’ to mark the beginning of the ‘Peacekeepers Club’. Students signed on The Peace Pledge and committed to be Peacekeepers in the world and spread world peace.

The Peacekeepers Club will organise monthly meetings, lecture series, events, storytelling, peace lunch, gift sharing and several other activities.
