A year-long survey has found that nearly 75 per cent of male Pre-University students in rural parts of Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Bangalore are addicted to pornography.

The survey, undertaken by the Mysore-based moral awareness group Rescue, covered 964 PUC students from January 2012 till date. At least 200 girls said they would rather marry a handicapped person than a boy who is a porn addict.

“Our survey also revealed that 30 per cent boys and 55 per cent girls in rural areas, who use cyber cafes for games and email, said porn suddenly appeared on their screens. Many village boys complained that town boys would force them to watch porn, ridiculing them if they did not,” said Abishek Clifford, CEO, Rescue. Nearly 70 per cent cyber cafes, out of the 50 visited by the Rescue team, agreed to load memory cards and chips of local youths with pornography, which Clifford called a “blatant violation of Section 67 of the IT Act, 2008.”

A signature petition has been initiated with 13,000 signatures from students and principals for ban on pornography.
