BANGALORE: A 21yearold youth who was brought to NIMHANS with fever and fits at around 10 pm on Saturday died on Sunday morning.

His family has blamed the institute of negligence and claimed that he was denied admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Pravin Kumar worked at a private cable network company and lived in Srirampuram near Aruna Theatre.

He reportedly had high fever and was vomiting since Friday. He was initially admitted to Maruthi Nursing Home in Seshadripuram on Saturday. He was moved to NIMHANS when he started getting fits and his condition started to deteriorate.

Sridhar BG, a relative of Kumar, said it was a case of negligence on the part of hospital authorities. "At 10.00 pm on Saturday, we brought him to NIMHANS. He was declined admission at the ICU. When we requested the duty doctor and the staff, they screamed at us. Around 11.30 am on Sunday, he died."

Dr Satish Chandra, director of NIMHANS, said there was no question of denial. "It is a government hospital and we never deny any treatment. In case of Kumar, he was suffering from severe epilepsy and this was the cause of his death."
