CHENNAI: People in Chennai seem to be increasingly trying novel ways to set make it to the Guiness Book of Records. After Chef Jacob’s barbeque martathon, it’s stylist and beautician, Vasugi K, who designed and decorated a 100 feet long bridal plait or jadai in four hours — all to set a unique record.
Earlier this week, her Friends Beauty Parlour on Arya Gowda Road, West Mambalam, was swarming with people — photographers, assistants and friends, who watched her plait about 50 feet of javari or artificial hair on a model, diligently decorating it with flowers. After carefully planning the flower varieties, hair quality and embellishments for over 15 days, Vasugi started working on the plait at 8.30 am on Thursday and managed to plait about 108 feet of hair and decorate 100 feet of hair in exactly four hours finishing it at 12.30 pm.
“Hair decoration is an important part of bridal makeover. It can be extremely creative and beautiful if spent time on. I knew I wanted to do this for a long time. It involves a lot of art,” says Vasugi.
She adds, “For this particular plait, I have used about 75 varieties of flowers along with bridal dollars, stones and pearls and zardosi designs. I planned the decoration with the help of eight men and four women.” At 12.30 pm, Vasugi’s closest friends and family members broke into cheers and applause congratulating her on the achievement for which she had been working day and night. Vasugi swore she would create such challenges for herself to continuously excel in the beauty care business.
