Aroor Das’ 60 yrs in Tamil cinema

Veteran film scriptwriter Aroor Das — who has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for more than 500 Tamil films in a career spanning six decades — was honoured here on Monday. A book authored by Das, Kodambakkathil Arubadhu Aandugal, was released on the occasion.

Releasing the book, veteran director S P Muthuraman said, “Das is the personification for the saying ‘Work is worship’. I got to interact with him when I was an assistant to noted director A C Thrilogchander. He used to wake up at four in the morning and write dialogue and screenplay inside a 15x10 room, without airconditioning or other facilities. He can be an ideal to the younger generation.”

Noted actor Sachu, who was also present, received the first copy of the book. Incidentally, the first Tamil movie starring Sachu in the lead, Veera Thirumagan, saw Das and Thrilogchander uniting for the first time. The function was presided over by Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty.
