Chinmaya Mission hopes to 'Transform India'

“The nation building effort of every individual is necessary for the transformation of the nation,” Tamil Nadu Governor, Dr K Rosaiah said while launching the national initiative of Chinmaya Mission – ‘Transforming Indians to Transform India’ on Saturday. The movement has been initiated to commemorate the birth centenary of Swami Chinmayananda, which will be celebrated on May 8, 2016.

At the launch, Rosaiah said that the economically comfortable population must do their bit to help provideeducation for all.

“India is a developing country and all Indians have to be stakeholders in the development of the nation, especially through education,” he said. As he released the book Transforming Indians to Tranform India, the first copy was received by Param Vir Chakra Awardee Captain Bana Singh.

In his address, Captain Bana Singh said that the nation will progress through individual perfection. “When we are perfect, the nation will be perfect,” he said.

Swami Mitrananda, director, All India Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (Global Youth Wing of Chinmaya Mission), said that the book covers seven dimensions of personal development. He also described the various phases of the nationwide initiative.

“There are three phases – phase one entails a national family quiz, based on the book, which will be conducted in the year 2012-13. In phase two, 2013-2014, there will be two nation-building seminars in each district of India. In the third and final phase, a national rally starting in the four corners of India will converge at Hyderabad in 2015 -16,” he said.

Swami Mitrananda added that a band with the inscription ‘My Transformation Transforms Nation,’ will be given to all quiz participants.

After the launch, Captain Bana Singh delivered a lecture on ‘Nation above Self’ as part of the ‘Known to Excel’ series organised by the Chinmaya Institute of Management, Chennai Chapter.

Seventy Chinmaya Mission centres across India launched the initiative this week. Registrations for the quiz are open with immediate effect in the city. The first prize for the national winners of the quiz is `2 lakhs and a car, while the second and third places have attractive gifts as well.
